Teachers as Change Agents
“Teachers as change agents are career-long learners, without which they would not be able to stimulate students to be continuous learners” (Fullan, 1993).
Change is inevitable; it is something that will always occur in any setting whether it is at home, work, or at school. Classroom environments, teaching styles and learning methods change over time. Teachers play a major role in what transpires not only in the classroom but in a student’s life. It is essential that they keep an open mind when change occurs and be willing to learn from it. For example, technology is consistently progressing it never comes to a standstill. Stagnation should never be an option for those who are in the industry of providing knowledge. In order for teachers to be successful and reach their students, they must be lifelong learners and cannot only view themselves as a teacher but as a student themselves; they are students of life. There are many resources that teachers can use to grow with the times which include workshops, committees, and sports teams, and so forth. This will allow teachers to learn from their colleagues, students and apply these group based learning to their classrooms. The shift from teachers functioning solely as individuals to working closely as a group is on the rise. They are coming together as a whole by collaborating with one another in hopes of providing the best possible methods of teaching which in return will result in students not only learning but wanting to learn.
